I wish I could have met Loie Fuller. Though she probably would have quite happily spun right past me in flutter of silk. Stopping her to talk would have been like grabbing a spinning top before its wound down naturally...besides totally cramping her style.
Only recently did I realise that this devine Art Nouveau bronze sculpture, this gorgeous poster and these beautiful photographs, are actually all Loie.
Remember spinning when you where 7, 9, 12 years old? until you fell over and wanted to be sick- for fun! That is why I like her so much; the graceful giddy lightness of it all. It's so easy to forget that feeling when you are a 'real grown-up'.
